Musikgarten classes are intended for younger students who are not yet ready for private music lessons.  Classes are available for children ages 15 months through 5 years, and their parents.  In weekly classes, children receive an excellent early exposure to music through energetic singing, dancing, and simple rhythm instruments.

Parent Orientation is required for parents enrolling children in Musikgarten classes (no children please).

Musikgarten Classes

Music for Life is now offering Musikgarten classes for young children!  Musikgarten is a time-tested program specifically designed to introduce music to even the youngest children, in both a fun, and developmentally appropriate way.  All children have inherent musical potential, and this can best be nurtured by early exposure and involvement in music, especially with the participation of a supportive parent.

Classes include singing, dancing, moving to music, rhythm instruments, finger plays, rhythmic poems, story-telling, aural rhythms, pitch patterns, and introduction to works of classical music.  You will be amazed at the musical capabilities of your young child and how they develop through these classes: singing tunefully, matching pitch, keeping a steady beat, listening and identifying sounds, and eventually recognizing the symbols of music notation.  Musikgarten is excellent preparation for later study of a specific instrument, or simply a lifetime of enjoyment of music!

Family Music for Toddlers

(ages 15 months to 3 years, parent or caregiver attends with child)

In this energetic class, parents and toddlers sing, dance, move, chant, listen, and play simple instruments together—connecting the child’s natural learning method of movement with music and musical concepts.  In addition to teaching music, the many movement activities also help children develop coordination, body awareness and control, and a sense of musical rhythm.  Short, age-appropriate listening activities develop attention to musical sounds, such as pitch and rhythm.  All materials are included in the price of the course.

or

Wednesdays 6:15-6:45 p.m.

Music Makers: at Home in the World

(age 4-6 years, parents participate in the last 15 minutes of class)

Through singing, creative and structured movements, playing instruments, ensembles, ear training, and guided listening, children are now ready to develop a deeper understanding of musical concepts.  Built on an engaging nature theme, this class develops symbolic thinking, concentration, memory, and self-expression, and children begin to work with and comprehend written musical patterns.  The children’s musical world is expanded as sounds of the orchestral instruments are also introduced, both individually, and in ensemble.  All materials are included in the price of the course.
